Stanford Medical Blood Center - San Jose
To assist the survivors and courageous men and women involved in the search and rescue efforts after the tragic events of September 11, 2001 , Altera sponsored a blood drive on Thursday, October 18th.
Over 124 employees shared the gift of life by donating blood.
American Heart Association-Silicon Valley Heart Walk

On a sunny Sunday morning, September 30th, over 175 Altera employees and their family and friends joined in the Silicon Valley Heart Walk. Altera's President and CEO John Daane joined the employees in the Heart Walk and also gave a speech. Altera employees raised $13,000 for the Heart Association.
American Red Cross-Santa Clara County
Altera's employees worldwide offered their heartfelt sympathies and condolences to those who lost family and friends in the September 11 tragedy bycreating a Disaster Relief Fund. All proceeds of this fund went directly to the Red Cross. Altera employees gave geneorously to donate a worldwide total of $66,000. Altera matched this total dollar-for-dollar, which brought the total to $132,000.
California Coastal Commission: Coastal Cleanup Day
Twenty-five Altera employees with their family and friends participated in Coastal Cleanup Day at Alviso Slough in San Jose, CA. The Altera volunteers joined local residents in improving the health of the marine life's environment.
Salvation Army Apple Tree Program - Boston
Altera's Chelmsford, MA office supported its local Salvation Army Apple Tree Program, which gives assistance to low-income families. Thanks to the generous efforts by the Altera employees of the Chelmsford office, 426 children in the local community received new school clothes.
Santa Clara County-Second Harvest Food Bank
On five different Saturdays from May to August 2001, 32 Altera employees gave their time to help the hungry in local communities. They made food kits for local shelters and low-income families, and bagged food for the senior citizens in the community. Over the five-Saturday period, they sorted and kitted over 64,773 pounds of food as well as created 660 Family Food Bags for low-income families.
Boston AIDS Walk
On Sunday, June 3rd a team of eight Altera employees with family and friends, participated in the Boston AIDS Walk. The 16th Annual 6.2-mile walk and 5-k run was a huge success. Their efforts contributed $2,000 to the almost two million dollars that the event raised, all of which will go towards the AIDS Action Committee in Boston and 12 other important AIDS organizations in the community.
Kiwanis Duck Race for Tiny Hearts- Ottawa
On Saturday, May 12th, several Altera Ottawa Technology Center (OTC) employees participated in the Duck Race for Tiny Hearts, which raises money for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). The race is the largest Duck Race in the world, with over 100,000 plastic ducks 'racing' down the Rideau Canal. Altera employees raised a total of $200.00 for this event by entering their own ducks at $5 each, not a bad effort considering that the Ottawa employees became involved with this event only a couple of weeks before it happened. They look forward to having more ducks to enter in the 2002 race.
Stanford Medical Blood Center - San Jose
In May 2001, Altera's corporate office in San Jose, CA held a blood drive in which employees donated 102 units of blood, making this blood drive San Jose's most successful to date.
Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ottawa - Ottawa, Canada
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ottawa, Canada held its annual fundraising walk, The Super Cities Walk. The Altera Ottawa Technology Center (OTC) entered this event with a 17-member team they called the Altera Walking Ones. The team raised a total of $1,370, and Glen Henshaw, the Director of the OTC, personally matched the donation, bringing the total donated to $2,740. The two walks, one in Kanata and the other in Ottawa, had a total of 4,200 walkers and raised over $360,000, making this the most successful walk to date for the MS Society of Canada.
American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days-San Jose
Altera was the Presenting Sponsor for the Santa Clara County Daffodil Days Campaign. John Daane, Altera's President and CEO, corresponded with over 80 high-tech corporations to encourage their support of this campaign. Altera raised $56,580 for this event, a total comprised of $18,860 in employee contributions and Altera's two-for-one match of $37,720.
