Jeff Fox Joins Altera as Applications Director for Megafunctions and Design Services

San Jose, Calif., May 11, 1998--Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) today announced that EDA veteran Jeff Fox has joined the company as applications director of megafunctions and design services, reporting to Craig Lytle, senior director of applications and product planning. Mr. Fox will take responsibility for product planning and applications engineering for Altera's industry leading megafunction products.

Mr. Fox has over 20 years of electronics industry experience. Most recently, he was director of system verification and FPGA design engineering at Viewlogic Systems Inc., where he was responsible for establishing strategic directions and implementing system design verification and synthesis products focused on the FPGA market segment.

Mr. Fox began his career at GTE Laboratories and served in many roles throughout his 13 year tenure. He later went on to found Silc Technologies, one of the first companies to offer language-based synthesis tools for ASICs, which he later sold to Racal-Redac and assumed the role of vice president of engineering. At Racal-Redac, his responsibilities included specification and development of high-level design and logic synthesis tools for ASICs.

"Bringing Jeff on board is representative of the investment that Altera is making in IP cores," said Lytle. "With Jeff's help, Altera will continue to expand its leadership in this important area." Altera's megafunction offering combines logic blocks developed by third parties through the Altera Megafunctions Partners Program (AMPPSM) and internally developed MegaCoreTM functions. "The combination of Altera's exclusive MegaWizardTM Plug-In software and our focus on key functions such as bus interface, DSP, and communications applications is a powerful solution that brings substantial benefit to Altera customers," stated Fox.

Mr. Fox holds BSEE and MSEE degrees from State University of New York at Stony Brook. He was also a fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Center for Advanced Engineering Study. Mr. Fox holds six United States patents and has authored numerous published conference papers.
