Altera Upgrade to MAX+PLUS II Enhances Support for Programmable Logic Device Families

  • Increases MAX® 7000AE Performance Up To 30 Percent
  • Debuts E+MAX Development Software for MAX 3000 and MAX 7000 Families

San Jose, Calif., December 13, 1999-- Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) today announced the availability of version 9.4 of its industry leading MAX+PLUS® II programmable logic development software. Optimized modeling and improved fitting algorithms featured in the MAX+PLUS II version 9.4 software provide a significant performance increase for the MAX® 7000AE device family. In conjunction with the upgrade of MAX+PLUS II, Altera is releasing the E+MAX development software package, a full-feature tool that includes VHDL and Verilog HDL synthesis for the MAX 7000 and MAX 3000 device families.

"The latest upgrade of MAX+PLUS II further extends Altera's commitment to continually enhancing the industry's most widely used programmable logic development tool," said David Greenfield, Altera director of development tools marketing. "With the introduction of Altera's new E+MAX software, customers now have easy and free access to a full-featured development software solution for use in designing MAX 7000 and MAX 3000 device families, the industry's most popular product-term architectures."

Performance Improvement

MAX+PLUS II version 9.4 features optimized modeling and improved fitting algorithms. The increased accuracy of this optimized modeling that highlights process improvements, combined with improved software processing, results in MAX 7000AE device performance improvements of up to 30 percent.

Free Development Software

With the introduction of MAX+PLUS II version 9.4, Altera is also announcing E+MAX development software package for Altera's MAX 7000A and MAX 3000 device families. The E+MAX development software has a host of advanced design features, including VHDL and Verilog HDL synthesis, schematic design entry, timing and functional simulation, and static timing analysis. Customers can download the E+MAX development software free of charge from http://www.altera.com. Customers can also install the E+MAX software from either a MAX+PLUS II version 9.4 CD-ROM, or the Altera Digital Library which will be released in Q1, 2000.

Device Support

MAX+PLUS II version 9.4 provides full support for the complete FLEX® 10KE device family, including PLL versions. The updated version also incorporates support for FLEX 6000 devices in three FineLine BGA packages, and for MAX 7000B I/O standards including GTL+, SSTL 2, and SSTL 3. Version 9.4 also features an enhanced Jam STAPL Byte-Code Composer and Player that supports both Jam STAPL Byte Code (JBC) version 1.0 and JBC version 2.0.
