This new book presents digital concepts incrementally and is a refreshing change from the texts that present principles too quickly and all at the same time. The book offers users valuable and applied exposure to CPLD and VHDL environments. Care has been taken to ensure that digital concepts are presented in a systematic and progressive format so that readers can gain confidence before being introduced to more advanced topics. Lab work begins with basic logic gate systems, flipflops, shift registers, and counters. Lab work then progresses to serial data transfer, parallel data transfer, digital display decoders, multiplexers, and keypad systems. The final labs expose students to math, ROM, and RAM systems. The project has students programming a Dot Matrix Display controller to create an electronic billboard system. A CD-ROM is included that contains animated PowerPoint™ presentations that students can use to review digital concepts as well as VHDL code.
