The university textbook Digital Logic and Microprocessor Design with VHDL by Enoch Hwang teaches the digital logic design of microprocessors. Starting at the beginning, the book covers concepts used in basic design of combinational and sequential circuits. The book progresses to using these basic building blocks to design data paths and control units that are used to implement dedicated and general-purpose microprocessors.
The book comes with a CD-ROM containing the MAX+PLUS® II Student Edition 10.2 software that can be used to compile the VHDL source code. The CD-ROM also contains the VHDL code for all the examples presented in the book. To make it possible to actually run the examples on a real FPGA device, an order form is provided for the Altera® UP2 development board.
