Overview

The acceleration of emerging wireless applications, all with a general increase in bandwidth and access requirements, has meant engineers must develop more and more products supporting new standards. In addition to that challenge, engineers need to achieve even lower costs and lower power consumption levels while making the systems adapt to new standards as they emerge.

At the QuickCast, you’ll learn how low-cost Cyclone III FPGAs:

  • Offer an unprecedented combination of power, functionality, and cost to enable you to design new wireless applications such as
    • Pico base stations
    • WiMAX customer premise equipment (CPE)
    • Software defined radio (SDR)
  • Provide application-optimized features to lower your system and development costs including
    • Up to 4 Mbit of embedded memory
    • Up to 288 embedded 18 x 18 multipliers for high-bandwidth parallel processing
    • 50 percent lower power consumption than previous generation low-cost FPGAs
    • Up to 120,000 logic elements (LE) to integrate more functions
  • Are supported by a complete design environment that includes
    • Wireless intellectual property (IP) ecosystem from Altera and Altera's partners with a finite impulse response (FIR) compiler, fast Fourier transform (FFT) compiler, and advanced encryption standard (AES) engine
    • Low-cost development kits
    • Free Quartus® II Web Edition software
