Switch Fabric Interface

Switch fabric interfaces are growing in importance in the networking market because they can link multiple network processors together. APEX II devices support the switch fabric/network processor interaction—a critical design issue in the development of high-performance communications equipment.

CSIX

The common switch interface (CSIX) lies between the core interconnect fabric and the upper layer switch processor for data and telecommunications switching systems. APEX II devices support CSIX Level 1 on up to 128 channels at 250 MHz using the HSTL Class I I/O standard, allowing for a maximum throughput of up to 32 Gbps.

LCS

The line card to switch (LCS) protocol allows for physical separation between the switching fabric and the line card racks. It supports in-service switching fabric upgrades that enable systems to scale bandwidth from tens of gigabits to tens of terabits. APEX II devices can support 72 or 84 LCS channels at 200 MHz using LVDS. Each LCS channel has a maximum throughput of 10 Gbps.
