Graphic Editor: Creating Custom Symbols
In this example, you will create and use a custom-made symbol called bnot.sym.
Create bnot.sym:
- In the Graphic Editor, insert and connect
INPUT, NOT, and OUTPUT symbols by choosing Enter Symbol (Symbol menu). See the figure below.

- Save the file as
bnot.gdf by choosing Save (File menu). Specify the project name by choosing the Project Set Project to Current File command (File menu).
- Choose Create Default Symbol (File menu). MAX+PLUS II creates the file
bnot.sym.
- Open
bnot.sym by choosing Edit Symbol (File menu). The Symbol Editor will appear. You can use the Symbol Editor to customize the appearance of bnot.sym.
- Choose Save (File menu).
Using bnot.sym:
- Create a new Graphic Editor file by choosing New (File menu).
- Insert the symbol
bnot by choosing Enter Symbol (Symbol menu).
- Insert
INPUT and OUTPUT symbols. Connect these symbols to the bnot symbol.
- Save the file as
test.gdf by choosing Save (File menu). See Figure test.gdf below.

Download the Graphic Editor files used in this example by clicking on the links below with the right mouse button and choosing Save Link As from the drop-down list box.
