Graphic Editor: Creating a Hierarchical Design
This example describes how to create a hierarchical design using the Graphic Editor. This design is functionally equivalent to AHDL: Creating a Hierarchical Design. The top-level file, top.gdf, calls the two lower-level files bottom1.gdf and bottom2.gdf. See the figures below.
bottom1.gdf
bottom2.gdf
top.gdf
You must create the symbol files
bottom1.sym and bottom2.sym so that the lower-level files can be instantiated into the top level. To create the symbol files:
- Open one of the lower level files (
bottom1.gdf or bottom2.gdf)
- Specify the project name by choosing the Set Project to Current File command (File menu).
- Choose Create Default Symbol (File menu). MAX+PLUS II creates the .sym file.
